I am happy to know that the Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre Chennai, is releasing a Souvenir on the occasion of the inauguration of its new Hospital Block on the 1 st of September, 1997.

The President sends his greetings and best wishes on the occasion.

Shri K. R. Narayanan (Former President of India)

India has acquired the dubious distinction of having the largest number of diabetic patients in the world. It is estimated that the number of persons suffering from the disease is likely to increase threefold from the present figure of 20 million in the next 25 years. In spite of this imminent threat looming on the people of the country, the level of consciousness about the disease, not only in rural areas, but also in the urban areas is woefully low.
It is indeed heartening to know that the Madras Diabetic Research  Foundation is organizing an exhibition on Diabetes in Chennai on 22nd December 2000.I compliment the Foundation for organizing the Exhibition and hope that the exhibition will generate awareness among the people about the disease and convey the point that preventive action can control the disease.

P.C Alexander (Governor Of Maharasthra)

I am extremely glad that a major public exhibition working towards this end called Diabetes 2000 is being organized at Chennai by Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre and Madras Diabetes Research Foundation. I hope this will lead to similar efforts in other parts of the country.
I wish the exhibition all success with enthusiastic public participation.

Prof. N.K. Ganguly ( Director General ICMR )

Dear Prof. Mohan,
I am happy that you are organizing a MEGA diabetes event for the public as has been done two years ago.Such a programme of direct contact with the public has great benefit and i find that more than 200 thousand people were benefited from the last programme. I am sure that the present programme will attract a greater number of people who would have the benefit of being educated about the most modern management of diabetes and its prevention. The M.V.Diabetes Specialities Centre is doing a great service to the public by arranging such public events thereby proving the keen social interest which your organization evinces. I have great pleasure in wishing the programme all success.
With best wishes.

I was very excited to hear that the new hospital block for the Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre is to be inaugurated, together with the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, and I am sure that this will enable our research collaboration to become even stronger. The work that we have been doing on the inheritance of diabetes, and the genetic factors which lead to diabetic eye disease, has Resulted in over fifty separate publications in international journals - this is a fantastic achievement over the last ten years.
As a regular visitor to Chennai, I have watched, with enormous interest, how the Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre and its Associated research programme has grown. It is truly of an international standard, providing the highest possible care for patients With diabetes; indeed, the facilities are better than the many centres in the United Kingdom. I am sure that, with the inauguration of the hospital and research buildings, you will continue to go from strength to strength.
