Diabetic Retinopathy Unit (Eye Unit):

Department Of Dietetics and Nutrition

Foot Pressure Distribution

Diabetic Foot Unit:

	Diabetic foot disease is a major cause of morbidity leading to amputations.

	Routine screening of the feet of all diabetics is done to detect early foot complications

	Sophisticated Equipments - Doppler test to check the blood circulation - Biothesiometry to check sensation of the feet are available - EMED Foot pressure measurement system to measure the pressure under the foot which is the main culprit which leads to diabetic ulcers

	Measurements from EMED categorise and identify persons at risk of developing foot problems

	Clinicians adopt and advise precautionary measures both in terms of treatment strategies and by way of advising to use customized foot wear

	Chiropody services are also available which includes attention to nails, treatment of corns, calluses and other foot problems

Radiology Services

	Headed by Dr. Ravikumar MBBS, DMRD, DMRE, DNB, Ph.D.
	Equipped with a high-resolution ultrasound machine with Colour Doppler facilities.
	Routine ultrasounds - detect problems in the liver, kidneys, pancreas etc.
	Special tests - determine the intimal medial thickness (IMT) of the carotid artery, an early indicator of athereosclerosis (thickening of arteries).
	First in India, to show an increased IMT of the carotid artery in diabetic subjects compared to the non-diabetic subjects.
	Haemodynamically significant obstruction in the carotid artery, peripheral vessels (leg and feet) and renal arteries can be diagnosed

Diabetic Heart Clinic

	The Diabetic Heart Clinic is run at the centre with the help of leading cardiologist.
	The centre has facilities for Computerized ECG and Cardiac Stress Testing with a Computerised Treadmill and EchoCardiography.
	This helps early detection of Diabetic heart problems.
	Special tests to determine the future risk of developing coronary heart disease
	Lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] assay - research done at Dr. Mohan's DSC indicates a strong association of Lp(a) with coronary heart disease in Indian diabetic patients.
